Automotive OBD2 Scan Tool and Datalogger

Software and data cables are already available for Winmo phones to connect to your car's OBD2 port. With the growing popularity of the mini-usb port, a project for android might be a good idea.

This application could read those nasty Check Engine Light codes, connect to a knowledge database of what could be the culprit, and give suggestions on how to troubleshoot the fault for your particular vehicle.

Furthermore, this app could be used for automotive enthusiasts to data log, for tuning purposes.

Currently this technology is found in standalone devices, often sold for over 1000 usd, and even more depending on how many vehicle's it supports, and functionality.

Recently there has been a push to open access to your vehicle's ECU. Lots of documentation at www.openecu.org.

This technology could be utilized on a professional or consumer based level.

There exists several OBD2 devices to plug into OBD2 connector and allow laptop to access vehicle. Many are based on ELM327 chips.
