Dear Android Developer Challenge losers,

May 12, 2008. Monday.
Your android application is not in the top 50 ADC winners list.

Dear Android Developer Challenge losers,

I know you are drunk. I know you are hung over. I know you are feeling terrible. I know you are at your lows. I know life sucks. I know you can't get out of your bed. But wake up, will ya?

Your android application is not in the top 50 winners list. Cool. Take a deep breath. Look outside. Anything changed? Nah.. nothing changed. Your wife loves you as much as she did before. Your kids love you as much as they did before. Your friends love you just like before. You must do the same. You must do the same to your Android application. Give it the same love, will ya?

First thing first, Send out your congratulations to the top 50 winners. Yes, you heard me right. Do it now, and do it fast. Better? It felt good right? Yeah I know, It feels great. Wonderful.

Now that you are feeling better, let me tell you this:

You might have won the challenge if only the judging process was fair. Your application kicks ass, but might have been prejudiced. Is that what you are thinking right now? Stop. Get over it.

Your application is not in the top 50 winners. That is the fact. Accept it. The top 50 ADC winners have been selected and they are enjoying the spotlight right now. Great. But does that mean, success is guaranteed?

Winning ADC Phase I guarantees 25K. Winning ADC Phase I guarantees press and spotlight for now. And you feel terrible for missing out. But you know what? You can guarantee something more than that. You can guarantee something that no one will be able to take it away from you. You can guarantee something that is realistic and will keep you motivated every single day.

You can work hard at being the best. You can work hard to build something that makes people happy. You can work hard to build something that your folks will find it easy to use. You can work hard to keep at it as long as you can, as long as it takes and as long as you like. You can work hard to change the world.

Your success or failure is not something for others to decide. Its you, who does that.

You don't believe me, do you?

Take a look:

Can you believe that? That can be you. Now go out and change the world.

Just curious if Google is considering sending back scoring results for the entries. I think most entrants, my team included, would be interested in seeing how our apps did in all four categories.

and thanks for the motivational letter. I think my team and I were very concerned with inadequate/unfair judging, but such is life ;)

Arc,

Yeah the whole idea of this post is for "motivation", and asking the participants not to lose heart if they did not win.

I'm sure we have all put a lot of hard work and at the end of the day we should be proud about it irrespective of the results.

Google "might" send back some sort of a feedback to the participants. But that's only a guess. Hope they do that.

Thanks for your comments.
