WNC GW4 to support Android
Slashgear is reporting that Wistron NeWeb Corp (WNC) has a new Linux based smartphone on display at CES. The GW4, shown on the right, features a full QWERTY program and looks very similar to the QVGA-L phone in the Android Emulator. The phone ships with some kind of Linux OS and software including an MP3 player, Web Browser, email and calendar. They say that there will be an option to upgrade it to Android at some point, unfortunately they are not in the OHA so they'll have to wait for Google to release the source just like everyone else. Interestingly, they have the text "Google Phone" on their banner for the booth. Nice way for a reasonably unknown company like WNC to get on the map.
Official specs:
- GSM
- Wifi
- 2.5" QVGA TFT-LCD Display
- QWERTY Keyboard
- Email (Pull Mail), PIM, PC Sync tool, Web Browser, Bluetooth, 2M CMOS Camera, MS Office & PDF reader, etc.
