Free real-time traffic router

With Google levels of popularity, there may be enough phones on the road at any time in metro areas to determine traffic flows on major roads in real time. If this data is anonymously centrally processed and made available to anyone on the road with an Android NAV system, we could automatically be warned of traffic problems, and new routes could be suggested. I see no reason this couldn't be a free service.

I met a company in Sweden in 2002 that does the same thing using a dedicated system. Also Nokia was testing a similar system not so long ago. See http://www.news.com/8301-10784_3-9868169-7.html.
The idea is great, but make sure you are not developing other people IP for free.
Hi,
this is a cool idea! Anyone working on it yet?
I have thought about this idea too :)
This is a project that I was working on before Android. The motoring community would post short voice bloggs with useful information about traffic conditions as they occur. Users would see a traffic blogg icon on the map ... then click to listen. Maybe it's stopped traffic, maybe it's radar trap, maybe it's a drunk driver ... all sorts of useful--and timely--information could be shared.
