Judge denies Samsung’s motion to halt Apple patent damages

Samsung tried to postpone Apple patent damages trial to wait on the Patent Office to examine an important patent’s validity. Last year a jury found that Samsung had violated five patents held by Apple for their iPhone’s design and functions. The judge over the case found in favor of Apple in the amount of around $450 million but later ordered a new trial to reassess damages. There was a previous trial that already awarded Apple $600 million to be paid by Samsung and now have to decide how much more they will add to the total.

US Judge Issues Injunction To Stop Sale Of Galaxy Tab 10.1, Apple Parties Like It's Mid-2011

2011I have bad news, good news, and news that goes both ways. The bad news: one of Apple's 8,000 lawsuits has finally borne fruit, and it's rather substantial. A US judge has issued a preliminary injunction against the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, meaning that once Apple posts a $2.6 million bond, the Tab 10.1 will have to be yanked from store shelves. (That $2.6 million is in case the injunction is later reversed, so that Apple can compensate Samsung.)

Judge: Oracle's Java APIs Are Not Copyrightable As Asserted, Copyright Claims Against Android Dismissed

1We're hearing via The Verge that Judge William Alsup has just handed down his decision on the copyrightability of Oracle's 37 Java API's, asserted by Oracle as having been infringed by Google in the Android operating system. This is probably the most important issue of the entire case. While a jury decided that Google did infringe Oracle's APIs as asserted by Oracle, that decision hinged on the assumption that the APIs were in fact copyrightable in the way Oracle had insisted they were.
